Description: The title Actuary is synonymous with ‘Risk’ and ‘Uncertainty’ and the application of these principles to Insurance and Pension Funding. However, the Actuarial skillset can just as be readily adapted to the needs of the Banking Sector. Whether it’s forecasting the run-off profile associated with Non-Maturing Deposits (NMDs) or using anomaly detection algorithms to detect suspicious transactions as part of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulation, the classical training an aspiring Actuary receives is perfectly aligned with skills required to flourish in a Banking environment.

An Actuary who decides to depart from the ‘Traditional’ areas of practice and pursue a role in Banking can expect to deal with:

  • How the role of the High Street Bank is being challenged by the rise of The Digital Bank for Retail & Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) financing
  • How to reposition a bank’s balance sheet towards ‘Sustainable Financing’ whilst preserving profitability
  • How to promote Fairness, Ethics, Accountability and Transparency in the application of Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence

Please join our session to explore:

  • Topical issues currently facing the Banking Sector across the ASEAN region
  • Opportunities available for Actuaries wanting to work in the Banking Sector
  • How the Actuarial Society of South Africa’s (ASSA’s) Banking Fellowship subject can equip an Actuary transition to the Banking Sector
