Synopsis: Join us as we kick start 2022 with our first webinar of the year – for an ASM leadership talk with Mr Alex Foong.  Our distinguished guest, Mr Alex Foong, is one of Malaysia’s earliest qualified actuary, and is a very prominent and well-known actuary/ leader within the insurance industry and beyond.  In this interview session, we aim to obtain valuable insights into his leadership style, his wealth of experience, and his advice to the aspiring actuaries.  Members will also have the valuable opportunity to ask questions directly to Mr Alex Foong.

    Director, Private Pension Administrator

    Mr Alex Foong has a great wealth of experience as a Board of Director, not only limited to the insurance industry or in Malaysia.  He is currently sits on the Board of Private Pension Administrator – and had previously sat on the following Boards at various times of his distinguished career (in no particular order):- Aviva Ltd (Singapore), Sentral Reit Management Sdn Bhd, Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM), Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), NV Multi Asia (Hong Kong), Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII), Malaysia Life Reinsurance Group, and Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP).

    Mr. Alex joined Great Eastern in 1996 and retired as the Director and CEO of Great Eastern Capital Sdn Bhd, the holding company of Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Bhd, on July 1, 2009.  Before that, he spent 12 years as the Director and CEO of Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia). Prior to joining Great Eastern, Mr. Alex was the CEO of British American Life Insurance Bhd (now known as Manulife Insurance Bhd). He came back to Malaysia in 1983 after working in AIA Hong Kong for 5 years.

    Mr Alex had significantly contributed to the industry and nation through his various roles with Financial Service Lab under National Key Economic Areas (NKEA), Special Task force established by the Insurance and Takaful associations, Financial Services Talent Enhancement Program (FSTEP), Malaysia Financial Planning Council (MFPC), Malaysia Rating Corporation Bhd (MARC), ASEAN Insurance Council, Universiti Malaya and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).  Mr Alex was the President of the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (1993-1996), and also has chaired various LIAM sub-committees (i.e. Actuarial, Technical, Tax, Regulation/Enforcement, Investment).

    Interesting facts, Mr Alex Foong is the second qualified actuary in Malaysia, and he was the President of the Actuarial Society of Malaysia from 1984 to 1986.
